The Sanibel Community House on Sanibel Island is a long-standing island landmark that is constantly bustling with activities for people of all ages. Established in 1927, the newly renovated community center is Sanibel Island’s main hub for social activities for both locals and visitors.
The Community House is offering a bounty of fun and creative activities all summer long for both children and adults.
Throughout July, island artist Sissi Janku is offering painting classes for children ages 8 and older. The two-hour classes will be available every Wednesday throughout the month and will focus on bright colors, fun techniques, and local wildlife. All materials including aprons will be available to students. Each class costs $50 and will run from 2 to 4 p.m.
Activities for children don’t end there. A children’s cooking camp runs Monday through Friday from July 29 to August 2 from 9 -12 p.m. Chef Jarred Harris will teach budding chefs the fundamentals of cooking to develop their cooking skills. Campers will learn kitchen safety and culinary techniques. Each session will be unique and focus on different topics and cooking styles each day. The cost is $50 for each class or $250 for the whole week.
The Sanibel Community House also offers a slew of activities for adults. Monthly community socials will be held throughout the summer with all events featuring different themes. July 6 is Rib Night, and Greek Night will take place on August 14. Cost is $15 per person and an additional $5 for a sundae bar.
Breathe deep on Tuesdays at Vinyasa yoga starting at 10 a.m. This Sanibel Yoga class is perfect for all levels. An additional Yoga Chi class is held at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Shell Crafting is also available on Monday mornings. Join locals and visitors to participate in one of Sanibel Island’s favorite past times. All ages are welcome but children must be accompanied by an adult. If you are interested in purchasing a beautiful shell craft, all artists will be on site until 1 p.m. on Mondays.
